New Fastest Known Time!

Well, The bar has been raised this morning by Dwight Hall who scorched the Towers Time Trial Course with a time of 26:07.

That's a good bit faster than any time we've seen to date with the prior fastest know time being held by a runner (Nick Clark) at 29:27. The cyclists now hold claim to the fastest time and the runners have a new mark to shoot for.

Here is Dwight's description of his ride. "Did the Towers tt this morning. Fresh legs, hot, no wind, rode my middle ring, suffered but did a 26:07. Feeling good about that time." Dwight, I think the rest of us would feel pretty good about that time too.

Now If I can just figure out how to shave 6+mins off my time...

Looking for times & next group TT

Well, family matters have taken the June 22nd group time trial off the table for me. I'm looking at the next time trial date being July 13th.

If you have timed yourself on the route send me your time via email and I'll post it.

June 8th - Time Trial Night

We had six riders show up at the line to get a time tonight. Roslyn was late for the Babes on Bikes ride so she decided to partake in the time trial. The weather was cool with wind out of the south/south east. In all I'd say pretty good conditions for some fast times.

Roslyn is the first woman to post a time so a mark has been set and is the FKT for a woman. Clint was the fastest man tonight posting an impressive 30:45 on his Black Sheep Single Speed.

Andy 38:00

Brian 33:00

Clint 30:45

Jeff 47:20

Roslyn 43:30

Toby 35:18

Dwight's cycling time of 29:55 still stands as the fastest wheeled time and Nick's running time of 29:27 is safe for now.

An interesting side note for those who ride single speed. I tried a smaller sprocket in the back (18 vs 19) for last nights trial and lost 14 seconds compared to my prior time. Perhaps next time I'll go the other way with a 20 or a 21 and see if spinning a faster cadence results in a faster or slower time.

**The next time time trial will be announced**

FKT Update and next group Time Trial date

Fastest Known Time update.

Dwight rode the course in 29:55 last night. The equipment was a 16 yr old geared bike with 60mm of front suspension. Good job Dwight.

The friendly competition between the cyclists and the runners on this route is getting interesting. The gap now to Nick Clark's fastest time running the course (29:27) is 28 seconds! For now the FKT running or riding is still Nick's.

Tuesday June 8th is group time trial night. We will meet up at 6PM at the Soderberg trail head. Bring your own stop watch and we compare times at the top. If you want to do the TT on your own just do the established TT route (see first post) I'll compile the times from Tuesday along with any times I get via email next week.

For those interested in riding the time trial (handicap style) with Nick Clark and a small group of runners you are welcomed. The runners meet every other Thursday night at 6pm, Soderberg trail head and they will be meeting this Thursday, June 3rd. Handicap style means that start times are stagard by your last time or estimated time.

Rumor alert - I heard Skyler blistered the climb up Towers sub 26 min...but he did not do the FKT TT route. Interesting!!!

Base line run - Cycling Time Trial FKT Towers

Here are the results of the Towers time trial last night (5/25/2010). The initial marks are set, now we can all try and beat them. Congratulations to Dwight who is the current holder of the mountain bike FKT of 30:15. Fort Collins local Nick Clark has the FKT running the TT at 29:27.

Brian 32:46
Doug 31:15
Dwight 30:15
Jeff 46:25
Ralph 43:05

FKT (fastest known time) route. Start from the trail map at the Soderberg trailhead. Head north for .45 miles on single track to the Towers Road. Then head directly up the hill for just under three miles. Note that after you have passed the West Ridge trail on your left you then make the last steep grind to the top. Once you’ve cleared that grind there is a fork in the road very near the top. Take a left at this fork and you will see telecommunication towers and a couple of buildings. Stop your watch after you slap the last building through the clearing (see picture attached). 1,750’ of vertical over 3.5 miles.
